Consultation ARI can assist governments of other countries by providing consultation services on the development of:
These services can assist governments of other countries in preserving, protecting and managing archaeological resources as an important component of their heritage. ARI also can provide consultation on impacts to archaeological resources resulting from projects and activities of governments of other countries. This consultation will identify and plan potential responses to these impacts. The responses may include: 1) attempting to determine how and why the impacts to archaeological resources occurred and how such impacts can be avoided in the future; 2) fully documenting the damage to archaeological resources resulting from the impacts; 3) developing monetary value determinations for the damage as a measure of the severity of harm; and 4) preparing for any litigation that may result from the impacts to archaeological resources. If necessary, responses to impacts to archaeological resources can be carried out with assistance from ARI’s investigation, damage assessment and expert witness services. ARI can assist the law enforcement agencies of governments of other countries in the investigation of unauthorized damage to archaeological resources. These expert investigation services include developing methods to detect unauthorized damage to archaeological resources, systematically examining locations where damage has occurred, fully documenting the damage, attempting to determine how and why it occurred and preparing a report on the findings of the investigation. If necessary, these investigation services can be supplemented by ARI’s damage assessment and expert witness services. ARI also can assist the law enforcement agencies of governments of other countries in the investigation of unauthorized damage to paleontological resources and various other types of natural resources. ARI can assist governments of other countries by providing damage assessment services for unauthorized damage to archaeological resources. These expert damage assessment services include documenting the damage through field damage assessment procedures, determining the effect of the damage in terms of accepted monetary values for archaeological damage and preparing an archaeological damage assessment report. ARI also can review and provide expert analysis of damage assessment reports prepared by other archaeologists to assess their content in relation to the most current standards for archaeological damage assessment. If necessary, the damage assessment services can be supplemented by ARI’s investigation and expert witness services. ARI can assist governments of other countries by providing expert witness services for unauthorized damage to archaeological resources. Expert witness testimony can be provided for investigation and damage assessment operations carried out by ARI for this damage. ARI also can review and evaluate investigation and damage assessment operations carried out by other investigators or archaeologists for damage to archaeological resources. ARI can develop and present training on archaeological resource protection for governments of other countries. Potential topics of the training include:
